Upon turning 12, Gunnar took up morning coffee - just like his dad. The other day I happened upon him in the galley and was shocked to see him shoveling sugar into his cup with a large soup spoon.
"Gunnar!" I said. "How much sugar are you putting into your coffee?!?"
He opened his eyes wide, gave me an innocent look and hedged, "Like your grandpa."
I immediately regretted ever sharing with him my recollection of Papa Colwill added four to five teaspoons of sugar to his morning coffee. I gotta watch myself around these kids!

Trey was ravenous when I picked him up from school the other day, but opted to go grocery shopping with me (where there are free cookies for kids) rather than return to Odysea with his brothers where there were lots of snacks. As we drove to the store, I heard a loud crunching sound from the back seat and looked around to see Trey chewing on something.
"What do you have in your mouth?" I asked.
He held up Chris' school art that had gotten left in the car - a piece of construction paper decorated with a now partially denuded macaroni flower - and said proudly, "Pasta! It's good."
I guess he was pretty hungry.

Max was feeling a bit sick to his stomach yesterday so moved homeschool, including his laptop, into the head (marine bathroom). A bit later, Dave, at the nav station, was startled to receive an email from Max - requesting snack delivery!

Last night at dinner we were discussing technical difficulties and Dave once again expressed his bewilderment over his computer's strange new habit of changing the word "you" to "anyone" every time he typed it.
Max promptly said, "Oh, I did that for my report. Remember? You told us it had to be in third person and not in second person. I added auto correct so I wouldn't forget. Did you want me to take that off now!?!"
I asked Max to set the computer so every time anyone typed "Vicki" it would auto correct to "the goddess".
