My 12-year-old, Max, was reading his Bible beside me and suddenly burst out, “I love this verse!” He proceed to read Proverbs 14:17 from the Message, “’Better a bread crust shared in love than a slab of prim rib served in hate.’” He then said of the NIV Bible, “The other version says, ‘better vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred’ – even the Bible admits that vegetables taste bad!”
Not exactly the “wisdom” I was hoping they would gain when I set out to have them read a chapter of Proverbs every day this summer, but there you have it – the Bible on vegetables.
