Big Adventure to the Great White North

We had moved back aboard Odysea in July for a one month trial after six months ashore  - with such great joy! Unfortunately, it was evident pretty fast it still wasn't a good fit. When we told the boys we had to move but we didn't know where we were going, Gunnar thought it might be a good time to go visit Grandma for a while, Max just said, "Faith like potatoes," (referencing the movie by that name) and Trey crumpled to a heap on the floor in despair. A moment later Trey jumped up and ran to his room. When he returned to the main salon he dumped all his birthday cash into our hands and said in satisfaction, "Now can we stay on Odysea?" We had a good cry/hug fest with him as we let him know that despite his kindness, we still had to leave our home. The sadness of leaving a lifestyle we adore and the unknown ahead made this a very difficult time for our family. But the next night at dinner Trey prayed, "Dear God, please help us during this hard time and this big adventure." Dave and I wept - that is the heart we want!!!!

Our "big adventure" has landed us in the great white north - we are in northern Minnesota on the Canadian border with my sister and her husband, indefinitely. We are just waiting on God and Dave's continued recovery from Tolosa Hunt Syndrome . . . Can't believe I get to hang out with my sister as a consequence of this "hard time". What an unbelievable blessing! Even though it is cold here, we are having such a lovely family time and it is an indescribable joy that she and her husband have a chance to really know our children. Blessed, blessed, blessed!

Here are some northern Foster Funnies . . .

  • Shortly after we arrived, Uncle Dave mowed the lawn with his push mower. Chris followed his Uncle around smacking his butt and shouting, "Hey, hey, hey!" until Dave paused and said, "What?" Chris said in utter confusion, "WHAT are you doing?!?" (We have lived on a boat Chris' entire life and the city workers who mow around the marina always use riding mowers.)
  • This morning Max told his Aunt that he thought the house was on fire . . . but it was just the steam from the dryer - never see that in Florida!
  • There was frost on the car window this morning and I used my debit card to clear it as we don't have an ice scrapper yet. When I hopped back in the car Max said, "Did you enter your PIN after swiping?"
