Foster Funny

When I paused briefly while reading aloud "Speaking of Jesus" (highly recommend), Chris asked, "What chapter are we on?"

Me: "Three."

Trey, with thinly veiled impatience: "What chapter are we reading to?

Me: "We are reading to 'be quiet and listen'."

Trey, cheerfully: "I like that chapter."

Maxism

After wading through the Hurricane Hermine flooded streets around our house and shepherding a fish back to deep water Max said, "Hipsters don't like it here because our neighborhood's now mainstream."

Max is into all things mathematical these days and observed, "If there were 53 states we would truly be 'one nation, indivisible'.

Max on driving

"I'm getting good at it but I don't like it - presents you with so many life or death situations."

The Treyinator strikes again

A mild concussion is the injury du jour. In the process, Trey also lost a few minutes of his memory - from launching his scooter off the fat spine to finding himself on a bench giving info to fill out an incident report. Hours later he still can't remember the particulars of the crash and decided, "I'm really just a time traveler with a headache." Witnesses contradict this theory and he is deeply grieved that they did not catch it on video.

Other concussion induced hilarity included, "What do you call it when you crash but don't get hurt? A concushion!"

February 16 - late entry

G left on his move to Gainesville at 1:30 today. Trey & Chris were having a great time 'til he took his first load of bags to the car. They got so quiet I walked over to where they were laying on the floor with our dog - crying. Chris said, "I wish Gunnar was still 10." Don't we all, don't we all.

Foster Family

Trey on the proposal to make medical marajuana legal in Florida, "That could be really good for all the old people who live here, their grandkids might visit more often."

Construction

When Gunnar started coughing after taking a drink Max said, "Bro, haven't you seen your face?" Gunnar said, "I think I just tasted it!"

Chris

At the bank today, setting up his savings account, the representative told Chris he could have any nickname he wanted on his account. He gazed around her office, thinking, thinking, thinking, then said, "F.D.I.C."

*****

Last week on our way back to Florida from our wonderful summer in Colorado, annoying vandals who broke into our car in Atlanta:( Today, home in St. Pete, Dave told Trey to put a "free" sign on a bike we no longer wanted before putting it out at the curb. Trey complained about having to make a sign and Chris said, "We could just take it to Georgia."

Guest Funny

From my friend, Sarah:

At the dinner table Jaden (7) and Fynn (5) got in a squabble over their dog, a chocolate lab. Jaden: “We have a laboratory.” Fynn: “No we don’t! We have a chocolate lamb!”

Trey on Feminism

Gunnar and Max were discussing the homeless shelter that only accepts women and children. Trey piped in, "What do the feminists think of that? Like, women aren't strong enough to be hobos?"

Chris on La Quinta Inn & Suites

Arrived for our overnight stay here in Missouri and Chris was sooooo excited by our choice of hotel. Clearly was not paying close enough attention because it took me a bit to catch on to why he danced to the lobby with me wondering where all the sweets were.

August 22

Dave hugged me and said that the best of fairy tales always have a sad and hard time in the middle, before the happily ever after. He said he is hopeful for us:)

Highlights

I got my hair highlighted for the first time in years. Dave loves it. Trey loves it. Chris said, "It makes you look like a teenager." Then whispered loudly to Trey, who was right beside us, "If she wasn't so old!"

More food for me!"

Foster Funnies

Chris was very surprised on Mother's Day and lamented that he had not purchased or made a gift for me. Finally he asked, "Mommy, will you take me to WalMart so I can buy you a present with your own money?"

Trey got out of his back brace for the second time this spring and promptly started doing tricks on his bike. Shortly thereafter Dave was getting after the boys for leaving their bikes in the yard at dusk and then he said crossly, "And I ran over the ramp you made when I was backing the car out." Trey, thrilled to learn his ramp had been used in this unexpected manner, said, "Was it awesome?!?"

* * * * *

Our bus kept getting stuck in the mud on the ride out of the Honduran mountains at the conclusion of our medical missions trip last week. It was quite comical to see all of us jumping up in our seats as instructed in our efforts to assist the driver. Worked the first time we got stuck, but not the second. After many attempts our legs were getting sore. Trey finally called out, "¿cómo se dice aaaaaugh ?"

Guest Funny

The eight year old birthday girl sat on Max's lap during a rousing game of Apples to Apples. Toward the end of the game, her grandmother, who was visiting from out of town, asked her, "Is his name Maxwell?" She started to say yes, then said, "Just a sec." She turned in Maxwell's arms and said, "Is your name Maxwell?" When he said "yes", she turned back to her grandma and giggled, "I had to double check!"

Rocky Mountain Oysters

Trey was bemoaning Dave's "evil trick" of serving him Rocky Mountain Oysters on their trip to Denver. When Chris understood the significance of this he got a delighted look on his face and tormented Trey, "Where do you think they get 'meatballs'?"

Best start to a sermon

"It's not going to be an intellectual talk, as you probably would expect."
