Visiting Christopher in Haiti

Max and I had a wonderful visit with Christopher Joseph in Haiti this past weekend. It was our first time meeting Chris and our first visit to Haiti. Thanks to our amazing hosts, John and Beth McHoul of the Maranatha Children's Home (http://www.heartlinehaiti.org/), our trip went smoothly.

I was delighted to find our baby is healthy and happy. Chris is a handsom little guy and from the start I was on a mission to make him smile so I could catch a glimpse of his charming dimple.

I wasn't sure how I would handle leaving my new son behind in Haiti - was actually a bit concerned about this aspect of the experience. After seeing how the McHoul's have arranged for the loving care of our precious baby and all the children in their care, I was sad to leave but not at all worried about Christopher's health or well-being while we wait for the paperwork to be completed.

Max was fabulous on the trip! We had borrowed a friend's Nintendo DS for the trip so he had games to occupy his time. This, however, could not mask the fact that Haiti is a third world country with limited electricity, no air conditioning, lots of bugs, abject poverty, etc.

When I asked him what the hardest part of the trip he said, "Probably the entertainment." The best part? "That Chris was there - that cute little bugger." Coming in a close second on the list of favorites was Miss Beth's delicious oven fried chicken made with French butter. Yum!
